Nine registered sex offenders in Greenwood County now have warrants out for their arrest after a countywide check found they weren’t following the rules of the state registry.
The Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office said deputies spent last week verifying the addresses of every registered sex offender living in the county. That added up to 191 people.
Of those, nine were found to be out of compliance, which typically means they weren’t living at the address they had reported or hadn’t updated required information. Deputies have obtained arrest warrants for all nine. Their names have not been released.
The sweep was carried out by the sheriff’s office’s Support Services and Uniform Patrol divisions, working with the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services.
The sheriff’s office said operations like this help keep people on the registry accountable and are part of its ongoing work to protect Greenwood County residents.
