Two Summerville men with prior felony convictions were arrested early Friday, Oct. 9, after North Charleston police say they found three handguns inside a pickup truck during a traffic stop.

Stopped for speeding

A North Charleston Police Department officer was on patrol near Ashley Phosphate Road and Stafford Road a little after 4 a.m. when they saw a pickup truck speeding and pulled it over.

Police say the truck came to a sudden stop behind a business on Ashley Phosphate Road. The driver, 22-year-old D’Zorion Da’Quase Davis, got out and started walking toward the patrol car. Davis admitted he was speeding, and the officer checked him for weapons.

Gun found after passenger’s tip

Two passengers were still inside the truck. When more officers arrived, they spoke with both of them, including 25-year-old Montavius Altonio Lewis.

An officer noticed a small sling bag next to the other passenger, who handed it over. Inside was a pistol magazine. When officers asked again if there were any guns in the truck, that passenger told them one was in the back seat.

Officers found a Glock handgun there.

Three guns, one reported stolen

Police then searched the whole truck and found ammunition, magazines and other gun accessories throughout the inside.

They also found a second Glock with an extended magazine in the center console and a third loaded handgun under a seat. A records check showed that one of the Glocks had been reported stolen in North Charleston.

Charges

Davis and Lewis were each charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm. Both were taken to the Al Cannon Detention Center.

Police did not say whether the second passenger faced any charges.

Davis and Lewis are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in court.

We’ll update this story if more information is released.
