A passenger died after a three-vehicle crash Saturday night, Oct. 10, at a busy intersection in northeast Columbia, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

What happened

The crash happened around 6:45 p.m. at the intersection of Clemson Road and Longtown Road, near Killian Road, said Master Trooper William Bennett.

Troopers say a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado was heading east on Clemson Road, and a 2018 Kia Sorento was stopped at a red light on Longtown Road.

A 2015 Kia Forte heading west on Clemson Road was turning left onto Longtown Road when it hit the Silverado and then crashed into the stopped Sorento.

One dead

The driver and a passenger in the Kia Forte were taken to a hospital, where the passenger died. There is no update on the driver’s condition.

No one in the Silverado or the Sorento was hurt.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office has not released the passenger’s name. Troopers have not said whether anyone was wearing a seatbelt.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.
