The search started because neighbors complained, and the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office says it ended with two men in handcuffs and about $400,000 worth of drugs off the street.

On Tuesday, Nov. 3, the sheriff’s office Drug Unit, backed by its Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team, served a search warrant at a home on Woodlawn Avenue in Sumter. Deputies said two men inside ignored their commands and ran. Both were caught after a short chase.

Inside the home, deputies say they found:

  • About 1,866 grams of methamphetamine (just over 4 pounds)
  • About 217 grams of fentanyl
  • 146 grams of crack cocaine and 126 grams of cocaine
  • About 464 grams of marijuana
  • Six guns

The two men are Alvin Reams, 30, and Devante’ Wilson, 28, both of Sumter.

Reams is charged with trafficking crack cocaine, methamphetamine and fentanyl; possession with intent to distribute marijuana; possession of a weapon during a violent crime; and possession of a gun or ammunition by a person convicted of certain crimes.

Wilson faces two counts of trafficking crack cocaine, along with trafficking methamphetamine and fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Court records show Wilson was already out on bond from a September arrest on drug charges, which are still pending.

Sheriff Anthony Dennis said the investigation began with complaints from the community. He said it isn’t over, and more arrests are expected.

The charges are accusations, and both men are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
