A 53-year-old man from Ladson is facing an attempted murder charge after a stabbing at a Circle K in North Charleston on Thursday morning, Oct. 8, police said.

Officers with the North Charleston Police Department were called to the store at 2235 Ashley Phosphate Road shortly before 9 a.m. after getting a report that someone had been stabbed.

How it started

According to investigators, the situation began when the victim punched Marvin Darleno Creel in the face and took his bicycle.

Creel went after him. Police say the two separated for a short time, but Creel later chased the man again. When the victim fell to the ground, Creel is accused of stabbing him.

The victim got back up and ran. Police say Creel then threw a glass beer bottle at him, which hit him and knocked him down again.

Victim taken to hospital

The man was taken to a hospital for treatment. Police have not released his name or shared an update on his condition.

Quick arrest

Creel left the area, but patrol officers caught up with him a short time later and found a knife on him.

Police say that after he was taken to the Al Cannon Detention Center, Creel gave officers a false name.

Charges

Creel is charged with:

  • Attempted murder
  • Possession of a weapon during a violent crime
  • Giving false information to police

These are only charges. Creel is presumed innocent unless and until he is proven guilty in court.

We’ll update this story if police release more information.
