A 33-year-old man is in jail on a murder charge after his own family brought him to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, deputies say.

The shooting happened around 10:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, on Irongate Drive. Deputies arrived to find a man who had been shot several times. He died at the scene. His name has not been released.

Investigators quickly identified Vincent Belton as the suspect. According to the sheriff’s department, Belton and the victim knew each other, and the shooting followed an argument between them.

On Saturday, Belton’s family turned him in at sheriff’s department headquarters. He was taken into custody without any trouble and booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, where he remained as of Monday.

Belton is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. The charges are accusations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
